I’m not big on the graphic design side, i mean i delve into it a lot and I’m experimenting and even considering taking it for university but a lot of the terminology i dont even know. I’ve heard Helvetica roll of peoples tongues, events in the cities on Helvetica but never really determined what it was I didn’t realise it was the font that we see billions of times a day.
'Ultimately my job as a designer is to look into the future, Y’know my job is about what’s going to happen not what has happened’ Marc Newson
Newson really got me going when he made that statement in the film, i'm bored everyone can see it in me... i'm bored of design a 'clock' a 'chair' and not being challenged to create something for the future, the digital age. Everyone has to start somewhere i know but ive been coming up with future concepts before i could even draw when i was ten i was coming up with stuff like the multimedia tv we have now, i remember coming up with a mobile phone concept that you could watch movies on... okay it was truly just fictional and wacky back then but that type of stuff is out years later. I just wish i was looking into the future again instead of looking to the history books to design products that have been around forever!
So Objectified, hmm I think I’ll have to go watch it again but basically it documents the basics of design to be viewed by an audience who are not apart of the design world. Well the same as Helvetica documentary is clearing up a essential basic in the graphic industry, 90% of what i seen when watching objectified i already knew however some of the eye opening talks from people like Bangle and insight into designers worksapce has led me to come up with some awesome concepts over the last few days. For example something based on the current lynx deodorant canister... keep you guys guessing and have the sketches up in the next few days.
